Dr. Nurit Gur-Yaish, PhD

Dr. Gur-Yaish is social phycologist and a Senior Lecturer and the Master Teaching Graduate Program director at Oranim Academic College of Education. Dr. Gur-Yaish is also an affiliated resercher at the Center of Research & Study of Aging at the University of Haifa. Dr. Gur-Yaish completed her PhD in Human Development at Cornell University. Her research focuses on close relationships and their relations to function, health, and well-being across the human life span, both in health and in educational settings. She has published more than 40 articles in international geriatric and psychological journals and presented her work at over 50 national and international conferences.

Research Interests:

  • Understanding the nature and extent of support provided to older adults by family members/caregivers in the hospital and long-term care settings
  • Interaction of older adults and family caregivers’ personality traits with emotion and behavior outcomes at times of challenging health
  • Interactions between family, staff members, and patients in health care settings
  • Development and validation of instruments and assessment tools to evaluate human responses
